Surrey Burlesque School
Policies & Participation Terms
1. Participation at Own Risk
By attending classes, the student acknowledges that dance, floorwork, and fitness-based movement involve inherent risks including but not limited to muscle strain, falls, bruising, joint injury, and aggravation of pre-existing conditions. The student voluntarily assumes full responsibility for these risks.
By attending classes, the student agrees to release and hold harmless the studio, instructors, and venue from any claims arising from participation, except in cases of proven negligence.
2. Medical & Physical Condition
The student confirms they are physically fit to participate. If under medical care, pregnant, post-partum, or recovering from injury or surgery, the student must seek medical advice before attending. Participation without such advice is at their own risk.
3. Physical Contact
The student understands instructors may offer hands-on adjustments for alignment, balance, and safety. The student may decline physical contact at any time and must inform the instructor.
4. Media Consent
Photos or videos may be taken for promotional use (social media, website, marketing). Students consent unless they notify the instructor in writing before class.
5. Recording Policy
Students may not film or photograph classes without permission. This protects choreography and the privacy of other students.
6. Bookings & Refunds
Classes and courses are non-refundable but are transferable. If you are unable to attend a class or course you may attend a future one.
The studio is not liable for cancellation due to events beyond its control (e.g., illness, venue issues, government restrictions). Alternative dates or credits may be offered at discretion.
7. No Teaching Qualification
Participation in classes or courses at the studio does not constitute teacher training, professional certification, or qualification to teach burlesque, dance, or related disciplines. Students may not state, imply, or advertise that they are trained, certified, endorsed, or qualified as instructors by the studio unless they have completed an official teacher training programme explicitly designated as such in writing.
8. Intellectual Property
All choreography, class formats, exercises, teaching methods, combinations, and creative material shared during classes remain the intellectual property of the studio and its instructors. This material may not be reproduced, taught, shared, distributed, filmed for teaching use, or used to deliver classes, workshops, or courses without prior written permission.
9. Non-Replication of Classes
Students agree not to create, teach, or offer classes, courses, workshops, or events that substantially replicate the structure, content, choreography style, or format of the studio’s classes. Using knowledge gained in class to establish competing programs based on the studio’s teaching framework is prohibited.
10. Breach of Terms
Any unauthorised use of the studio’s intellectual property or misrepresentation of training may result in legal action, including claims for financial damages and injunctions to prevent further use.
9. Punctuality and disruption
Students arriving late may be refused entry at the instructor’s discretion for safety reasons. Disruptive behaviour may result in removal from class without refund.
10. Dress and equipment
Students are responsible for wearing appropriate clothing and footwear. The studio is not liable for injuries resulting from unsuitable attire (e.g., unstable heels, slippery lotions on skin, etc.).
11. Personal property
The studio is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage to personal items, including costumes, phones, jewellery, or cash.
12. Code of conduct/safe space
Harassment, discrimination, bullying, or inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated. The studio reserves the right to remove any participant creating an unsafe or uncomfortable environment.
